Afternoon Delight Tablescape

Issue 01

We were so lucky to have a friend in Prague who not only is a highly skilled entertainer (we’ve attended several of his parties), but also has a stunning flat and is an extremely talented baker.  When we originally approached him to help us out with the Afternoon Delight shoot, he jumped right into the brainstorming excitement!

We pitched it as follows- If you were going to invite a couple close friends over for the afternoon to chat, catch up and indulge, what would you serve?

He came up with the following innovative menu:  Two types of cupcakes (vanilla and raspberry) an angel food cake, deconstructed pavlova (meringue with berries and whipped cream), a lemon meringue pie and lots of spoons for sharing.

While scoping out the flat, we fell in love with a red antique buffet in the apartment and decided to use it to set the scene for the desserts.  We cleared everything off the top of the table and started playing around with different accessories such as a bright blue glass bottle, wooden candle sticks, a stack of old Vogue magazines, layers of white platters and a bowl of citrus fruit.  We knew that placing the desserts at different heights (instead of at one level on the table) would be more visually appealing and exciting to guests, so we grabbed what was around to help adjust the height of each dessert.

We also used a set of “Old Fashion” spoons from the French brand, Sabre– a must for any home entertainer and two different flower arrangements to bring more colour onto the table.
